Gabe Newell recently announced that Left 4 Dead 2 may be released in Australia as Valve and EA have submitted another version to be rated.

Although Newell did not comment on what changes were made, there are guesses that the dismemberments and decapitation (the best parts) may be cut.

Valve has made it clear that they want the unedited version to be released, by appealing to the classification board to reconsider the original submission, but in the likely case it still doesn’t get approved they now have a backup. The Board’s classification decision for the censored edition is expected to be announced later today.

The result of the appeal will be announced on the 22nd of October and if successful the full uncensored version will hit the shelves. Newell also said that if the uncensored version is given the go ahead after the censored version has been released a free update will be released to restore the original content, but because of the hassle Microsoft makes with releasing DLC for the 360, the update will only be for the PC version.

“I thought Left 4 Dead 2 would get the same treatment as Left 4 Dead 1,” said Newell. “So I was a little surprised by the decision.

UPDATE: L4D Censored edition has successfully been classified as MA 15+ (The highest rating in the country)
