Member Spot Light: UNITE S JENING!!

We all know him, we all love him… it’s J-J-J-JENING!!
Jening, a member, an admin, a friend, and TF2’s own celebraty super spy, has reached his 1000th hour of game play as spy!! to celebrate this occasion i thought it was suiting to feature a member spot light on our very good friend UNITE S JENING.
The following is the interview i was fortunate enough to have with him as We be going over his 1000 hour party, and some origins stories of some of Jenings trade mark features, amounst other things that you’ll just have to read on to find out more.
Alder: what are some of jeing’s favorite games of all time?
Jening: Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (fav FPS); Company of Heroes (fav RTS); Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri (fav Strategy – Empire Builder); X-COM: UFO Defense (fav strategy – tactical), and TF2 of course 😉
Alder: haha ofcourse
Alder: so would they also be your multiplayer games of origin as well?
Jening: first ever MP game was Doom II
Alder: haha nice!
Jening: Command & Conquer Red Alert (1) was the first RTS JENING played Multi-player a lot
Jening: and of course, no gamer’s resume would be complete without attesting to some Starcraft
Jening: before Starcraft: Brood Wars came out, JENING was once ranked 667 on the ladder (Playing as Terran)
Alder: ah very nice!! so it seems jening was originally a RTS kinda guy. would that be fair to say?
Jening: JENING’s Multiplayer career started with an FPS (doom 2), but yeah, the formative years were largely RTS’s
Alder: ah i see. so what made you come over to TF2?
Jening: well, JENING in recent years had been trending back towards a lot of FPSing
Jening: Wolfenstein, for example
Jening: JENING also played a lot of SWAT 4 and also the Rainbow 6 series
Jening: never actually played TFC, but when the Orange Box came out, JENING’s friends told him it was a guaranteed great buy, and that JENING would probably like TF2
Alder: they were right so it seems
Jening: although of course, when JENING first picked it up, JENING’s friends had pasted the word “Spy” over “Team” — JENING thought it was Spy Fortress 2 and was surprised, several hundred hours later, that the other classes were playable as well!
Alder: hahahha so does that explain your chosen career as spy as well?
Jening: it does indeed
Jening: although even had JENING’s friends not done that
Jening: JENING would likely have played spy anyway
Jening: in Wolfenstein: ET, JENING’s favorite class was the Covert Ops
Jening: which was a spy class of sorts
Jening: JENING enjoys the challenge of having to be sneaky and deceptive and also enjoys the challenge of being able to engage in direct face to face showdowns with other classes, while playing as an ostensibly weaker class. the challenge keeps it fresh, fun, and enjoyable
Alder: it does indeed. its why i enjoy TF2 so much thats for sure.
Alder: so jening has been playing spy for quite some time now. what was it? 1001 hours now?
Jening: 1003 as of today
Jening: 1003.2 to be precise (so say the Steam stats)
Alder: lol hey, those nickles and dimes add up!
Jening: they do indeed
Alder: with over 1000 hours under your belt i understand you also threw a party pretty recently to comemerate the occasion. how did that go?
Jening: JENING did!  It was a wonderful chance for JENING to celebrate with his friends, both new and old, and commemorate all the fun times we’ve had with each other and hopefully will continue to have for a good time to come
Jening: JENING’s good friend Zero-Rogue provided an updated version of his epic Amphitheatre Stage Map
Jening: and JENING’s friends The Announcer, Hacky, and Blue Fenrir Wolf all graciously and kindly wrote and performed their own JENINGsongs
Jening: they were all wonderful, and JENING is always humbled by the creative talents of his good friends
Jening: oh, and JENING would be remiss if he did not mention his good friend Dr. Reid’s spot on impersonation of F! clan member Kimmy 😉
Alder: haha it was quite perfect eh? i think i heard a bear roar at some point too. she’s good
Alder: did you run into any problems during the party?
Jening: the only difficulty that arose is a problem that JENING considers himself very fortunate and lucky to have
Jening: JENING has been incredibly lucky to have been able to meet so many good friends in his time playing TF2, and it is always a challenge being able to hold an event on a server capped at 24 people when so many others would like to share in the experience as well
Jening: again, it is a problem JENING feels extraordinarily lucky to have; it’s always difficult to know, however, that many people who wanted to be there could not be
Alder: i can understand that. valve should make a spicific jening server for 150 people. that would solve every thing 😀
Alder: so just for the novelty of the question where can i see videos of this party 😉 ?
Jening: presently, nowhere, as they are being uploaded by JENING’s very gracious friends as we speak, but as soon as they do go up, they will be posted with all other JENING videos, on the JENINGblog at http://www.JENING.net!  Viewable ingame using your in-game web browser:  Shift+Tab, bottom right, “Web,” http://www.JENING.net 😉
Alder: excellent!!
Alder: speaking of parties what was jening’s very first party like? and what was the occasion?
Jening: JENING’s very first party was held in December 2008, on the Division 7 server, hosted by JENING’s good friend, Reidzor
Jening: the occasion was JENING hitting 500 hours as spy
Jening: it’s actually a fun story, as JENING never intended to throw such a party
Jening: but Reidzor and some others had mentioned off-handedly that JENING should do so
Jening: JENING didn’t really followup on it, but one night, had noticed that the Division 7 server’s name had been temporarily changed to “Jening 500 HOUR PARTY” or something to that effect
Jening: JENING happily checked it out
Jening: and many of JENING’s friends were there to help JENING celebrate, it was humbling and overwhelmingly kind
Jening: we played a few rounds on Badwater
Jening: when JENING crossed 500 hours
Jening: everyone changed into a spy
Jening: and we formed a giant spy tower
Alder: that is a fun story. i never knew that about your 500 hour party.
Jening: 🙂
Jening: that was also when JENING debuted “JENING 500 Hours”
Jening: to the tune of the Proclaimers’ 500 Miles
Jening: videos of that event can be found on the JENINGblog, a direct link to which JENING provides here:  http://jeningnet.wordpress.com/2008/12/14/500-hours-as-spy-jeningparty/
Alder: ah, most excellent. i love that song btw, but i love all your songs so i dont know how much thats worth 😛
Alder: so what inspired you to sing in the first place?
Alder: was jening always the singing type before TF2?
Jening: JENING has always enjoyed carrying a tune, but always casually, and never in game before
Jening: JENING first composed the “JENINGrap” in TF2 as sort of a fun aside
Jening: something to help kill the time during setup
Jening: but people enjoyed it far more than JENING ever thought they would
Jening: JENING’s good friend Makk even took a video of it and uploaded it to YouTube
Jening: that was the first ever JENINGsong posted on YouTube, incidentally after that
Jening: JENING thought it would be nice to do a song for the 500 Hour Party since everyone had been so kind in arranging it
Jening: the feedback from that was also so positive that JENING thought maybe it would be fun to write other TF2 songs
Alder: jening thought right
Jening: 🙂
Jening: eventually people started asking JENING to perform in game
Jening: and JENING was happy to oblige if it made peoples’ experiences more fun
Jening: and as long as that remains true, JENING will continue to be very happy and honored to be able to contribute to his friends’ fun every night
Alder: always fun when jening sings.
Jening: always a pleasure and an honor
Alder: so jening, what made you pick up the jening persona in the first place? and how has it affected your online gaming?
Jening: as far as JENING’s persona, JENING is as JENING does!
Alder: 😀
Jening: it initially made the gaming more of a challenge
Jening: as many initially did not appreciate playing with someone who spoke as JENING does
Jening: JENING would often be kicked, sometimes even banned, as a result
Jening: but it was ok, as JENING found many friends who have since been extremely nice
Alder: they’re just jening virgins
Jening: haha
Jening: to the extent that JENING being JENING contributes at all the cohesiveness of the JENINGfriend community, and the fun we have nightly, JENING would say that JENING being JENING has made the online gaming experience far more rewarding than JENING could ever have imagined
Alder: haha well jening, you’re one in a billion.
Alder: but speaking of finding jening friends. did you expect to form such a tight knit community?
Jening: never in JENING’s wildest dreams did JENING think this sort of wonderful outcome would have resulted from JENING simply playing TF2 and being as JENING does
Jening: JENING always had certain servers he enjoyed going on early on
Jening: and as those servers went down, JENING would travel to others and meet new people
Jening: those server communities were usually pretty close, but once the specific server went down
Jening: the individual players often went their own ways
Jening: but in the past year or so, JENING has been really fortunate to have been able to meet a bunch of really terrific people, like yourself, Aldershot, who have become good, close, and fun friends, independent of any specific server
Alder: 😀
Jening: the Secret Option F clan, and its thriving nature, is a true testament to the closeness of that community
Alder: thank you ^^
Jening: c1, as what keeps everything going is everyones’ wonderful personality, but JENING is happy to know that he was able to play at least a small part in helping people to meet each other
Alder: thats very kind of you to say jening. this is one of the reason i feel the jening community to be something a bit more special. as you mention, it’s not server spicific, its more about who you know, and by definitiom thats what a community is. if F! server was to blow up tommorow i know for a fact i’ll still be playing games with the same people on the same day
Jening: it is indeed
Alder: ok so i only have a couple more questions before we wrap this up
Alder: what is a Jeningral Electric Jeningrator any ways?
Jening: ah, JENING is happy that you asked
Jening: JENINGral Electric JENINGrators can provide you and your home with all of the clean, efficient power you need for your day to day activities
Jening: why remain hostage to blackouts and brownouts when you can have your own personal JENINGral Electric JENINGrator powering your lights, your refrigerator, and even your personal computer!
Jening: with a JENINGral Electric JENINGrator you’ll know that no matter what the power company does, you’ll be able to sit in a well lit room, playing TF2, while dining on fresh, chilled food
Alder: well i’m sold, i’ll take 10
Alder: but before i make the purchase….
Alder: if jening was to play chuck norris in a game of TF2….. who would win?
Jening: JENING once proposed such a match up to Mr. Norris, but he politely declined, offering JENING the chance to play him instead in a game of chess
Jening: JENING enjoys chess, and plans to schedule the apointment with Mr. Norris, while JENING’s good friend OMFGNinja sneaks up on Mr. Norris and drenches him in urine (Ninja plays a lot of sniper these days)
Jening: although JENING can only speculate, JENING would suspect that for that time, JENING would likely have the upper hand
Jening: but Mr. Norris is a tough one indeed!
Alder: lol thanks for the insightful answers jening, we’re very appreciative for your dedication to your games and to your spying. we’ll see you in TF2 later tonight 😀
Alder: thanks again jening
Jening: thank you very much, JENING appreciates it very much!
